Trekking tips for Himalaya

Trekking is the great sport that brings us close to the Nature. Either in the countryside or in the very remote place we should have to be careful about several things during trekking. Small negligence could cost big incident which easily ruin your trip. Prevention is better than cure thus we have to be careful before we leave for trekking. In this blog we are talking about some trekking tips for Himalaya that you need to know and follow during your trekking.

01) Reliable information of trekking area: Get the proper information of the region where you going to trek. Make sure about the availability of accommodation, food and time duration take to reach onward place.

02) Walk slowly: we should walk slowly in the beginning or it’s more important when we heading to high altitude. If you doing long trek in the high providence you should walk slow and steady in the beginning which helps you to become used to with the territory and also minimizes the chance of blister. After (3500m/11480ft) don’t ascend more then (500m/1640ft).

03) Purify water: Purify your drinking water with purifying pill or you can use steripen. The best way to treat water is drink boiled water. Bottled mineral water are also widely available in the mountain and the countryside of Nepal.

04) Organize tea house trek: If you trekking in the area where teahouse is available then you should stay and eat in the teahouse because it’s more reliable and convenient then you get to sleep in the warm and cozy room. If you are a beginner hiker then you should do the organized tea house trek with government register trekking agency which deals with all your necessary and logistic stuff during the trek.

05) Drink plenty of fluid and liquid: Drink plenty of fluid and liquid during the trek because it plays vital role in keeping body hydrated but avoid alcohol when you are going towards high elevation. Eating the soupy meal and drinking hot drinks like tea, coffee, hot-chocolate helps keeping the body hydrate.

06) Keep your energy up: Trekking is tough sport which requires high level of energy so to keep your energy level up always you should eat plenty of food. During the day time when walking to keep the energy you should carry instant energy stuff like chocolate bar, chips, honey, cashew, peanut etc. For meal Dal Bhat is the best food for energy and it also provides you required amount of energy.

07) Avoid injuries: For the convenient journey safety comes first. Keep your eye always in your surrounding and be alert whereas the trail in the Himalaya is not easy all time. Get your own first-aid kit for possible injuries like sore muscle, small wound and some pills for diorama, headache, food-poisoining and some insect repellent.

What to wear (Clothing)

It’s always better to have enough clothes when you go trekking to cold terrain. It’s really painful to shiver with cold because of not having plenty of warm clothes. It’s more painful when you got your journey ruined because of not having sufficient amount of clothing. So clothing plays important factor in trekking & outdoor. Weather conditions are unpredictable these days. It could rain, snow even it’s not forecasted so, and we need to be preparing completely for unfavorable weather condition. Here below some points for clothing during trekking in the Himalaya.

I) Avoid cotton outfit in the rain because it takes long time to get dry and doesn’t warm you enough. Go for fleece, polyester or wool instead.

II) Use wool or nylon socks but don’t use cotton socks because it might create the blister.

III) Wear a cap or hat to protect yourself from scorching sun burn and protect yourself from cold.

IV) Don’t forget your gloves. Better to have one extra pair for day time which should be thin and light.

V) Get the good shoe. Use your new shoes in the city before you go to Himalaya. New shoe can create the blister if you don’t become use to it before you get to trekking spot.

What to Carry (Bag pack)

Every trekker should be smart in terms of Bag packing. Heavy loads can create a big problem instead of convenience & reliability so, we should have to be extra careful in bag packing. We should keep in mind during bag packing we should not forget important thing and avoid carrying unnecessary thing. Below here some of the things we should not forget during trekking in Himalaya.
• First aid kit
• Camel bag and water bottle
• Water purifier or steripen
• Instant energy food
• Raincoat and rain cover for bag
• Extra battery for your camera & torch light
• Lighter or Matches box
• Extra pair of clothes
• Sleeping bag
• Map, compass, Gps, altimeter, thermometer

Major trekking routes in Nepal

There are dozens of trekking destination in Nepal. Trekking around the world highest mountain is always big challenge for hikers even to those who are physically fit. There are many places for trekking in Nepal raging from east to west in the northern region. In this blog we are talking about few trekkkng destination in terms of facilities available, remoteness, unique, tough terrain, restricted, semi-restricted. Below here we are talking about around one dozen trekking destination in Nepal.

Trekking Weather in Nepal

With the highest mountains in world Nepal has tremendous variation in climates. The lowland plains are tropical, the midland hills are temperate, and the high mountains have sub-arctic and arctic conditions. For trekkers, the fall and the spring offer the best clarity (mountain views are a big reason why we travel to Nepal) and mild temperatures with the least precipitation. Below are Nepal's trekking seasons:

Fall Peak Season: October and November

The months of October and November are peak trekking season in Nepal: temperatures are mild, the weather is relatively stable, and the clear air makes for superb mountain views. The high mountains are still cold and and lower elevations are still warm but the daytime walking temperatures are the most pleasant overall. Bad weather can hit any time of year but the fall has the most reliable conditions.

The fall season is also when Nepal receives the bulk of trekkers. The most popular trails, such as Everest Base Camp and the Annapurna Circuit, are bustling with trekkers and this is felt from the trails to the teahouses. The Thamel district of Kathmandu will be full of tourists and guides charge at their highest rates during the fall peak season (although hiring a guide is relatively cheap any time of year).

SPRING SEASON: FEBRUARY THROUGH APRIL

The second most popular time of the year for trekking in Nepal is from late February through April. The spring temperatures are similar to the fall and the trails are less crowded, but there is slightly more haze and precipitation. This means that in the spring you will need to reach higher elevations for clear mountain views, usually around 10,000 feet and above. Precipitation levels increase as the spring progresses.

SHOULDER MONTHS: SEPTEMBER AND DECEMBER

The shoulder seasons can be excellent, particularly the second half of September and early December, but they are also more of a risk. If you're lucky, you will experience peak season conditions with only a fraction of the trekkers. If the monsoon lingers or the winter arrives early, the weather won’t be nearly as pleasant.

December is normally dry, stable, and clear, but also cold, especially at higher elevations. By mid-December high elevation trekking becomes treacherous and many teahouses close. During the winter the mountain passes may require techincal equipment and experience.

MONSOON (STAY AWAY): MAY THROUGH AUGUST

The summer from May through August generally is a poor time to trek in Nepal (lower elevation hill treks and the drier Mustang and Dolpo regions can be exceptions to the rule). Significant heat and moisture rise up from the Indian Ocean, bringing hot temperatures, clouds, haze, and rain. This blocks the views, creates messy trails (with leeches), and leads to significant problems with ground transportation. The peak of the Monsoon season occurs in July when the weather begins to taper off into the drier fall period.
