Lukla Flights Rerouted from and to Manthali Airport, Ramechhap from 15 March, 2020

The Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) has decided to continue with regular flights on the Ramechhap-Lukla route even after the completed runway renovation of Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA). After operating flights smoothly in this spring season (March, April, May 2019) CAAN has decided to give continuity to regular flights on the sector in the coming days from 15 March, 2020.
Ramechhap (Manthali) Airport
Ramechhap (Manthali) Airport is located in headquarter of Ramechhap district of Province No. 3 in Nepal. Ramechhap Airport is also known as Manthali Airport.
Manthali Airport, located 132 km northeast of Kathmandu, is a 3 hours Deluxe Jeep drive (For normal Regular Vehicle it takes about 3 hours 53 minutes ) from Kathmandu. The airport is situated at an elevation of 474 meters above sea level and has a 518-metre runway.

For our Hiking Trekking Advenure Traveler guests who are going to Everest Himalaya Base Camp or other trekking which start from Lukla we will take you directly to Manthali airport by drive around 3 hours ahead as per the flight schedule. So you will catch your flight easily without having stay overnight at Ramechep. This is easy way to remove the hassle of finding accommodation in Ramechep.

The flight takes 20 minutes from Manthali to Lukla which is a very safe and scenic journey to the gateway of Everest Base Camp Trek as well as other Everest Himalaya Hiking Trekking Adventure

Manthali airport is a domestic airport that lies towards 132 km east of Kathmandu at the capital of Ramechhap district. Reaching the airport from Kathmandu takes nearly 4 to 5 hours of road drive along the BP Highway. Manthali is a small town with a few visitors, which is certainly gonna change this Spring.
As we recommend, you should stay at Manthali if you have an early morning flight to Lukla. But the question is are there sufficient accommodations in Manthali?
Manthali isn’t a popular tourist destination. It is not a highly facilitated place too. The facilities of accommodation at Manthali are limited and the facilities are also basic. In this Spring, due to the diversion of Lukla flight from Kathmandu to Lukla, Manthali will receive a lot of travelers. Also, there will be flight crews and staffs who will be staying there. So, the limited accommodation facilities here may not be enough.
Instead of staying in Manthali itself, you can leave Kathamndu early morning like at 3 or 4 AM to catch the same day flight to Lukla.
We, Nepal Everest Himalaya Hiking Adventure Company , always come out with the best plans and operations. Reaching Manthali from Kathmandu to Manthali via our private vehicle will take around 3 hours To catch your scheduled flight to Lukla, you have to reach the Manthali Airport on time.
You can drive to Manthali early in the morning, at around 4 am. But we think that early driving isn’t the best choice for our Trekking HIKING Traveler . Driving to Manthali half asleep and boarding on the Lukla flight will make it hectic for you. On the top, you’ll have to trek to Phakding after reaching Lukla. This will be tiring if you drive to Manthali in the early morning.
Alternative to Ramechhap Lukla Flight
For those who want to escape road travel there is an option of a helicopter ride. Kathmandu to Lukla Helicopter Flight costs US Dollor 1800 per flight which accommodates 5 people in it. The helicopter flight from Kathmandu to Lukla takes 40 to 50 minutes to reach the Tenzing Norgay Airport, Lukla (2,860m).
